A little context goes a long way
Rich care does not need a miracle story.
Tallow balm is a rich, water-free moisturizer. It can be a satisfying part of a simple routine, especially on hands, elbows, feet, and other dry-feeling places. It is not a treatment for acne, eczema, psoriasis, or another skin condition.
That distinction matters because social media can make a familiar ingredient sound like a cure-all. The figures below come from named studies, with the study date and context kept close to each number. They are here to make the next choice feel clearer, not to make a grand promise.
The figures
Six useful numbers to keep close.
200
tallow skincare posts reviewed
A 2025 peer-reviewed analysis examined 50 posts each from YouTube Shorts, YouTube videos, Instagram, and TikTok. The searches were conducted in December 2024.
View the source82%
recommended tallow for skincare
Across the 200 posts reviewed, 164 recommended tallow for skincare. A recommendation is not the same thing as evidence that a product treats a condition.
View the source69.5%
showed financial bias
139 of the 200 reviewed posts showed a financial relationship or other commercial signal under the study's definition.
View the source4.5%
cited supporting evidence
Only 9 of the 200 reviewed posts cited evidence. Those citations appeared in the YouTube video group, not in the sampled Instagram or TikTok posts.

posts claimed benefits for acne, eczema, and psoriasis
Those were the counts of posts making each claim. The researchers concluded that high-level evidence for those tallow-specific claims was not available.

estimated fragrance contact allergy prevalence
In a 2015 study across five European countries, researchers conservatively estimated fragrance contact allergy at 1.9% among adults aged 18 to 74. This is population context, not a rate for The Hollow's products.

Look at the whole jar, and the whole claim.
A well-made balm can be a useful choice when you want a richer finish than a light lotion gives you. The responsible reason to choose one is texture, ingredients, scent, and how comfortably your skin receives it, not a promise that it will solve a medical concern.
Social posts can still be a lovely source of ritual ideas, but a popular video is not a clinical study. When a post links a product to a condition, pause and look for a named source. The 2025 tallow analysis found that cited evidence was uncommon in the material it reviewed.
Fragrance and botanical ingredients deserve the same practical attention. Read the full ingredient list, patch test a new leave-on product, and stop using it if it makes your skin feel irritated, itchy, or uncomfortable. Diepgen and colleagues interviewed 12,377 adults and patch tested 3,119 adults in five European countries. The 1.9% estimate is specifically about the study's definition of clinically relevant fragrance contact allergy.
